I’ve been invited to participate in the 2009 Banned Books Week “Read-out,” sponsored by the American Library Association, in Chicago on September 26.

letter from George Takei
George Takei (Star Trek’s Mr. Sulu) and his husband Brad Altman wrote me a lovely letter about Uncle Bobby’s Wedding. See what he had to say here:
emails from fans and other people
Since Uncle Bobby’s Wedding was published, I’ve gotten lovely, supportive emails and letters from all sorts of people, including a rabbi in California, a young expectant mother, and Mr. Sulu himself, George Takei. Mostly, I’ve heard from gay parents who are happy to have a book that helps their children feel less alone.
I’ve also started hearing from people who are very upset that their children brought Uncle Bobby’s Wedding home from the library. I’ve been collecting the names they’ve called the book: filth, garbage, disgraceful, a product of the Devil, and, just today, disgusting.
